The Guild Sign - a symbol of living and breathing craftmanship

The guild signs in Salzburg’s Old Town are more than just street signs. They are visible symbols of a vibrant craft tradition that has been practiced here for centuries. In the narrow alleys around Getreidegasse, people live, work, and pass on what generations before us have built. Many businesses carry their history not only in their names but also in their daily work—and their guild signs tell this story.

Since the Middle Ages, this diverse craft has been a cornerstone of the city. Those who shop here are walking in the footsteps of history. Emperors, prince-bishops, and artists such as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart were once among the customers of those establishments where work continues to this day. Here, tradition is not a museum piece, but a living part of everyday life.

A Milestone in Steel and Gold

In 2016, the awarding of the guild sign for the new shop on Getreidegasse marked a special turning point. To mark this occasion, the Guild Line was created—a deliberately limited-edition knife series designed to commemorate a milestone in the company’s history.

This year, the line is celebrating its 10th anniversary.

Like all the beautiful things in life, it is also kept rare: Only 300 knives will be produced in total. Each one is more than just a utility item—it is a testament to its time. Adorned with a solid 14-karat gold plate, embossed with the guild shield emblem, these knives visibly bear their origin and significance.

Three models – one concept

The Guild line comprises three models that showcase different facets of the same standard:

Tradition
A classic knife with a sturdy and versatile blade shape. Reliable, robust, and versatile—whether for hunting, outdoor use, or worn with traditional attire.

Elegance
A technically sophisticated model with a curved tang. The ergonomic fit of the handle scales gives this knife a look that is as surprising as it is elegant.

Cuisine
A fully integrated kitchen knife for universal use. The exceptionally thin blade and fine steel structure enable extreme sharpness and exceptional cutting performance.

Unity in variety

Every model in the Zunft line can be customized: Various handle options and a personal engraving allow for a fine-tuned match to the owner. The result is a knife with a unique touch that remains part of a larger whole.

A Symbol of Craftsmanship

From the very beginning, the Zunft line was intended to be more than just a limited edition. It stands for a commitment: to responsibility toward one’s own craft, to its traditions, and to passing them on.

So that the art of knife-making will endure into the future.
