The Knife Award of the German Blade Museum annually honors a handcrafted knife that reinterprets a traditional or historical design with modern materials and techniques. The theme for 2024 is "Tradition_2.0." Our contribution is a modern carving knife inspired by various stylistic epochs, blending ancient manufacturing methods with contemporary technologies.
The handle is made of 925 sterling silver, cast with cold enamel, and adorned with ornamental motifs. The blade was crafted using a 3D model from Böhler N690 steel, with hand-set silver wire. The silver handle was produced by casting a 3D-printed wax model and decorated with enamel ornaments that combine elements from Gothic to Art Deco. The cold enamel technique gives the knife a modern touch and ensures a durable coating on the silver handle.
